5 THINGS I’VE LEARNT IN MY LIFE SO FAR.
by Doug Villeneuve [aka DJ Villeneuve].
My good friend Shaun, asked me what 5 life lessons I’ve learnt whilst living this fantastic life, well here goes…
Always, and I do mean always, believe in yourself.
You know your abilities. You know your beliefs. There isn’t a safer bet than trusting in yourself. For me standing in front of twenty thousand people who want to have a good time, you have to know in yourself that you have the talent and the confidence to kick arse.
Karma, you may not be able to see it or touch it, but trust me it’s there and if you muck with it, you will get your arse bit.
When I was young I decided to go against everything that I knew to be good and true and boy did that come back on me ten fold. I do not care what or how you play it in your head, the right thing to do and say is always the right thing. Even if you find a wallet or purse that has thousands of dollars in it, find that owner, give it back. You do not know if it’s the person’s life savings. What you will get back will be so, so much more that grabbing the cash and throwing the wallet away.
Friendship and loyalty is incredible important to me. The old saying, “If you can count on one hand five good friends, then you are lucky.”
I would like to quote Larry Gates:
Friendship is that relationship in which two people may share openly and equally with each other. A true friend will listen more than lecture; help more than criticise, pick one up when he falls, and share happiness, joys, griefs and fears. A real friend will not always tell one what one wishes to hear; but will always tell one what he needs to hear. A friend will be there for one when no one else will, and will always put your happiness above his own. A true friend laughs with one, not at one, and will always be there when needed.
Life is to be lived and to be treated like a marathon, not a sprint.
Yes I know, there are lots of things we cannot do or are much harder to do as we get older. But if you take care of yourself and embrace every stage of your life like a new chapter of a fantastic novel, life is good. Problems are there to be solved, challenges are there to be overcome, life is what you make of it, so let’s go for the super nova.
Finally my last life lesson that I have learnt … stress kills.
Be aware of what’s coming down the road, be prepared and step back, look at all sides of the problem and remember it’s never the end of the world, just a bump in the road of life. Chill.
From a true DJ’s DJ, Doug Villeneuve, has spun globally with the heavyweights and earned his irons for constantly hammering the dancefloor with his fusion of tribal drum inspired house music perfectly blended together in layers of intelligent crescendo building rhythms.
Over the years DJ Villeneuve has travelled between London, New York, Ibiza, Milan, Amsterdam, Prague, Dubai and Sydney. Clocking up more miles than an Easy Jet flight attendant, he has DJ’d at every club worth playing including Pacha, Space, Privilege, Amnesia. Ministry of Sound, The End and The Tunnel Club. Playing a blend of house and tribal, it is easy to understand why Ibiza will always be his second home (and ours too). Here he became a permanent fixture as a resident at Space’s infamous opening and closing parties. On the production front under his own label Votan, DJ Villeneuve worked with Australian Rock Gods – The Divinyls – on a project to rework many of their early hits. Collaborating closely with Mark and Chrissie it was completed shortly before her untimely death.
DJ Villeneuve also joined forces with producers of the Pet Shop Boys for a one off project, on Cayenne Recordings. “The Real Thing” also featured the vocal talents of Fabrice Morvan, formerly of Milli Vanili. In terms of production, his personal favourite would also be one of the all times favourite track of Danny Tenaglia titled “You Think Your Jesus”.
It’s a true pleasure and honour to called Doug a very dear friend. His music has transformed our life, especially whilst at the gym or dancing naked around our living room. We highly recommend you get to experience his music, whether it be live (if possible) or via download. You will love it!
